Mainly for two reasons. The first being it is easier to maintain. The second being this is about providing the artists a canvas. It shouldn't be some fancy site design that grabs your attention. It should be the art within this site.

Why does the art seem a bit off?

First off, great eye. Secondly all photos are ran through a program called Glaze developed by University of Chicago to prevent AI theft of artists' work.
